A new year but still great hockey
It is a new year! Welcome 2019. I don't feel different.
Manny's Hockey Shop in the new year extends its lead in the standings tonight against Vescera Law. Manny's started in the first with 2 late goals. Joe Martin finally cracked the egg, popping the goal and giving up his body. He got the rebound from Steve Owens shot and hard work to get out in front. Glen Marshall would get the next 2 goals, one to finish out the first, getting it from Mike Thomas and Kevin Bartels. Marshall, filling in for the Captain Derek Signoriello, who kept the team in line with his coaching on the bench. Marshall would get the next one again from Mike Thomas setting him up. This was just after Vescera had gotten back one with Votta playing cat and mouse with Mike Baro and the puck and popped in the goal. Votta was set up by Nate Arruda and Brandon Bell. In the third Mike Thomas would get the next goal with the help of Anthony Lisi. Right back at it, Vescera would get Manny's running around. Little Robbie Edleman would somehow ricochet the puck into the net. This one was so good, it even had a penalty shot. Steve Owens was doing his best water skiing impression as Nate Arruda drove the boat. Unfortunately for Vescera Law, Baro lives for penalty shots. Gerry Fahey would put the exclamation point on the game as he netted the puck from a great pass by Owens to finish the game. Manny's wins 5-2 over Vescera Law.
In the 9:49 game, Green Goddess and Roman Law would dodge and parry with Roman taking the early lead. Just after the face off, Shawn Smith took advantage and scored on a breakaway. Later in the period Eric Campbell would extend the lead making it 2-0 Roman Law. At the end of the period Shane McCormick would take a great pass from Ray Iannuccillo to get on the board. In the second Peter Meegan would extend the lead for Roman set up by Timmy Sheehan. Turns out the second would be a stalemate as Green Goddess would tie it up with a goal by Shannon Caverly getting the goal and then the assist on Greg Landry's goal. Who is number 13??? New guy, may have made the difference in the game. Roman Law would take the lead back with Mike Riendeau would get the go ahead to end the second. In the third Ray Yellow Socks Iannuccillo would get the tying goal. Back in forth they go, Roman Law would get the lead back with Tim Sheehan scoring at the 2:30 mark. Greg Landry would tie it up literally seconds later. What a game. Later in the period with the clock winding down, the tie was broken and this time for good. Shane McCormick would dash the hopes of Roman Law and pop in the game winner 6-5.
The late game, we can call it the 11:05 game. In the first Final Touch would roar out to an early lead. Andy Meegan would set the table with the first goal, with Mike Bragan getting the game winner yep goal number 2 in the game in the first was the game winner. Neil Foley would put the first away with a goal of his own. Rick Mercuri would sing Bohemian Rhapsody with a couple of goals to begin the second. Ralphie Espilat would close out the second with a goal as he helped the Touch. Finally Manville P/P would get a goal from Larry Lefebvre. It wouldn't be enough as Mike Bragan would complete his sombrero trick with 2 late goals and put up the big 8-1 Final Touch win over Manville.
The new year is starting out great, well for me and Manny's anyway.
Three teams are locked together in second with 16 points, Votta, Vescera and Roman, with Manville nipping at the heals.
I hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2019
