FNL In full swing as we head into June

June 6, 2015

BREAKING NEWS: CHANGE IN SCHEDULE, unless Your Team is Roman Law, You have a game This Sunday Night, June 14th.  Please Check Your schedule, as it has now been finalized.

In the first game all eyes were on Manville Pizza as they took the ice. Last Friday they took down one of the power teams of the FNL, (Friday Night League), Manny’s Hockey Shop. Since their by, they went 1-2-1, with a couple of one goal games. They looked like they had found their way. Unfortunately, they couldn't bring the magic toniht. On the other bench and In the same boat as their rivals on this night, MSCCC took it to Manville with a decisive 5 to nothing shut out. Steve Manning and Glen Mederios, led the team with 3 assist for Manning and 2 for Mederios.

The summer months are a mystery as to what team is going to show up, not metaphorically or emotionally, I mean literally. The subs are in full effect in almost every game. However, the rare sighting pit 2 teams against each other, without one substitute player. Each team had their drafted players. As Final Touch and Roman Law took the ice, it was refreshing to see, how they may play against a true rival. As we see with the parody of this league and talent around it, this game did not disappoint. In this one Joe Martin would be the games mvp and hero. He would get 2 goals, one a ridiculous back hander against the grain taking top waffle side corner. Brian Roman and Pete Meegan would each get 2 points. Meegan with a goal and assist and Roman with 2 assists. Jay Pires had his best game of the year against Mike Baro, arguably the best goalie in the league. It was a battle of 2 top teams and someone had to win. Roman Law would prevail with a 3-1 Victory.

In the final game, lots of moving pieces were in the works. Unlike the second game, the captains were scrambling for players to help them. Last minute emergencies and other scratches, looked like an ahl all star game with many different jerseys and faces. This was a game of who touches the puck last wins. Apparently Brian Beck touched the puck an awful lot as he scored 5 goals and figured in on all but one of the 8 goals, for a 7 point night. Beck was a machine. Vescera Law put up a heck of a fight, even leading much of the way. The wheels came off, even with Kevin Bartels bringing it from the defense passing it up to Bill Figuerado who took the shot, Bartels never stopped and got the rebound into the yawing goal mouth. It wouldn’t be enough against 401 Consultants, who would prevail over Vescera Law in a barn burner 8-6.

Next weeks preview pits Final Touch, the league leader against 401 Consultants in the early match up, Beck vs. the Show.

In the second game, it’s Law vs. Law. Let’s see if the Roman can present their case against Vescera.

In the late game Manny’s Hockey Shop takes on Mineral Spring Car Care Center. MSCCC is coming of a big win and Manny’s is coming of the by week. Cannot to see this mammoth matchup.

It was a great night of hockey in the FHL. Hope to see you next week.
