The Quest For The Cup Winter 2020-21
Friday nights just got hot hot hot.
The Presidents Trophy belongs to Votta Properties. They finished with a 12-4-2 record. Having the most goals for and the least against. Last nights action stapled them firmly in first place. Up Against Green Goddess in the wee hours of the night, Votta came out swinging with an early goal by Shane McCormick, set up by Neil Foley. Foley had finished the season with the 3rd most points on Votta with 22, 9 goals and 13 assists, 3 of which came in this action. Late in the first Green Goddess would tie it up. Shooter Marc Dionne would put the green on the board in the last shift of the first with help from Eric Robichaud. In the second Ricky Votta would take the lead, as a leader and well he should. Again, Neil Foley setting him up. The Mid third would have the teams leading scorer doing his job. McCormick would get the game winner with Kreg Labelle on the assist. Jimmy Meegan would keep it close for the Goddess, in the mid third. It would not be enough as Kreg Labelle would cap the scoring for Votta Property and the regular season scoring. Votta Properties wins 4-2 and gets the first round bye. Green Goddess will play Quick Dam in the first playoff round.
Final Touch secured the bridesmaid spot with a win early in the night over Vescera Law. The rookie captain Shannon Caverly put a great team together and grabbed a 10-4-4. It was touch and go for the first period. (see what I did there). Vescera would take an early lead, giving panic to the Touch. The new guy Kevin Schleicher would get on the board early, with help from Lil' Robbie Edleman. In the second, Final Touch would get on the board, tying the game. The game came down to the third. Jimmy Galvin put Final Touch in the lead with Jay Cawley's help. With one shift left, Final Touch would cap the game and the season. Chris Pilot would punctuate the game with help from the 2 Steve's Albertelli and Owens. Final Touch will have the first game against this same team Vescera Law on Friday to kick off the playoffs.
So, do you win and play the late game or lose and play the middle. This, amongst other questions, loomed over the game. Quick Dam and The Edge Doctor were pretty much in the same predicament. Quick Dam came out fast. The new guy in the league Neil Yee would put the orange on the board with help from Derek Green Pants Franco and Paul Bergy Bergeron. Ok enough with the nicknames, lets get at it. In the second, Shawn Smith started a fire, with the game winner early in the period. The Doctor was not out of this by any means. Derek Antunes was the example for the test, if your team gets possession of the puck you fly the zone. And he did and he got a beauty off at the end to cut the lead in half. Neil Yee would get another one for the QD from Glen Medeiros, donning number 77. With patience of a saint he made a hell of a pass to set up the goal. Bergeron with the other assist. This night belonged to Shawn Smith, getting another one midway through, using his speed and flying into a pass from long distance and finishing with the cut in shot. Late in the period, Smith completed the sombrero with a fairly open net, thanks to Kevin Webster and yours truly occupying the goalie. Some nights the puck just finds you. Quick Dam would win the game 5-1. They will be playing Green Goddess in game three of the Playoffs. Edge Doctor will be playing Manville Pizza in the second game of the playoffs.
Here some fun facts. Andy Morrison gets the Art Ross Trophy for the most points this season. 19 goals and 19 assists. Truly a team player. Shane McCormick and Steven Albertelli tied with the most goals, sharing the Maurice Rocket Richard award. Shawn Smith, Tim Pincince and Andy Morrison would share the Jack Adams trophy with 19 assists each. The Vezna trophy is a tough one. Frankie Zabata will need to share this with Shannon Murphy. Without stats, I am going to go out on a limb and say that Shannon probably had the most shots on her than any other goalie. Giving her the best save percentage.
I hope you are all geared up for the playoffs. Support your local shop owners. Specifically Derek Signoriello. The Edge Doctor is open for skate sharpening. Get over there and put your best blade forward.
Have a great week everyone.
