Vescera Law Wins The Championship

April 10, 2016

The Ahab Report

Congratulations to Vescera Law, The 2015-16 NRIAHL Winter Champion.  Vescera Law knocked off Manville Pizza 2-1.  All the scoring took place in the First period.  Iggy Gozman got the scoring started half way through the period.  Nate Arruda fed the puck to Jim Joubert at the point, and He made a nice shuffle pass to Gozman who hit it on the go into the net.  It didn't take long for The Pizza to strike back.  Minutes later, Jodie Pachomski stole the puck in the neutral zone, and four moves later fired the puck low to the glove side to tie the score.  The Law took the lead for good with just over a minute left in the first.  Gozman fed the puck from His defensive zone, tape to tape to Nate Arruda at center ice.  Arruda and Ricky Votta executed a perfect give and go on a two on one, with Nate banging home the game winner.

The rest of the contest was a tight defensive struggle, and no Team has executed this game plan better than Vescera Law, with Their smothering defense and outstanding goaltending.  The Pizza did give The Law quite the scare late in the game.  With just over five minutes left in the game, Dan Dussault appeared to get the equalizer.  It took some time for most to realize that the referee had dis-allowed the goal, claiming someone was in the goalie's crease, blocking His ability to see the shot.

After The game Mike Baro was selected as The MVP of The Tournament.  Captain Bill Vescera said, "We could not have pulled off this run without Him, He deserve The MVP more than anyone."  Baro, with all His humility, claimed, "I couldn't have pulled this off with out Our smothering Defense, and that includes all the guys on Offfense too."  After Vescera took the lead for the second time, You could sense that goals were going to be hard to come by.  The Law pretty much kept all their players back, dropping into a neutral zone trap, and with Baro in net, it would prove to be the winning move.
